They are statues not meant to be play with lol ,mask up or down.
I'm also liking the debate here, but as everyone's said it's all subjective. Regarding this CM, I can't say too much - it looks on point but Iron Man statues are super-saturated at the high end, and while I like Marvel and the film-verse I'm no super fan so I wouldn't buy it. I can see why someone else might want it, and I hunted down Vader so I can understand why the price may be no object. The concern on the face plate is kinda valid - if you're a bit of a kid and change the display frequently the pins/whatever could wear down, but I think there's no way CM would churn out a crapfest mechanism.
I personally avoid poseables because there are details you can do/see with fixed pose that can never be matched by a poseable figure, however I would not say they are not pieces of art: someone sat there with some reference images and slaved away at their craft for however many hours. There's definitely artistry there, it's more a question of whether these things appeal to you, or perhaps whether you have an inclination for better quality materials or want weight in your collectibles. A specific impression of quality. I know a girl who only buys poseable dolls and figures because she likes photography and customizing the clothing, wigs, make up, paint and accessories. The Dollfie Dreams she collects are 1:3 and definitely high end products, but they have different appeal.
Personally, even with amazing sculpts, many poseables remind me of toys, whereas there're less blind spots in the detail in a statue (plus better bases/'out of the box' displays), so I can get why someone would say a Hot Toys piece is a toy to them (...plus they do have "Toy" in the name, but tbh even statues are toys - toys to be marveled at I suppose).
I feel as though there's a lot of negativity about Sideshow. In my experience their QC is pretty poor, but they develop a lot of great sculpts. The quality and accuracy of the sculpture itself is a big deal to me; a silicon head isn't an improvement if the likeness isn't there. Proper paint jobs can do a lot with resin, you see some great stuff from professional commissions and garage kit builders. They have a huge catalogue but much of it is made by freelance sculptors, so it's not fair imo to blacklist their offerings as a whole. The factory results? Sure I've never seen them come close to prototypes, but it's not like there's anyone else putting out a dragon statue as cool as Deathwing.
I think the look of the end result matters more than the unseen 'quality' such as how heavy the material is, who cares if it weighs little if it's behind glass? Porcelain is lightweight but considered a traditional 'art material'. Besides I hear that pvc is supposedly a better material to cast in than resin variants like polystone since it is easier to paint consistently thanks to steel molds (paint masks) and is less brittle- I wonder whether it being so commonplace on larger scales in Japan is a 'we have our own factories' thing, because PopCultureShock or F4F said it was too expensive to cast in 1:4 in pvc, but eh companies like FREEing sell tons of 1:4 pvc stuff.
George really knows how to kill the mood. nothing happening here.
I agree I expected some updates on this by now.
Apparently the silicone face is being modified.
At this stage any mouth will do.
Oh boy more of a wait!
This will probably show up at Palooza.
Anticipation for this piece does seemed to have waned quite a bit though.
According to Raf, Steve Wang is working on alterations to the RDJ portrait and they will be submitted this week for approval once more.
is that all their waiting for before it goes up for PO?
I wonder if Raf was able to sneak a peak at the face today, or maybe it wasn't even under the mask.
Raf was Ironman nice in person?
No I was unable to see the face as it has not been approved so that is why a new one is being done , so let's hope the next one will be approved and will soon be ready to order
